The Best Marriage Advice

My husband and I celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary today! I've been thinking about our wedding day, specifically the ceremony which took place in the Portland, Oregon LDS Temple.

My grandfather officiated in the wedding and married and sealed my husband and me for time and all eternity. He counseled us and gave us some marital advice. He told us that each day we should kneel side by side, hold hands and pray out loud to our Heavenly Father together. Even more important was that he said we should pray and give thanks unto the Lord for each other and that after the prayer that we should embrace in a hug and a kiss.

It is rather simple and doesn't require that much effort, but I will tell you that we have followed that advice everyday for these past 8 years and that it has been a great blessing in our marriage. Praying side by side and giving thanks unto to the Lord for each other each has strengthened our marriage in times of trial and triumph. It's humbling to kneel before the Lord and give verbal thanks to Him for my wonderful husband.

My grandfather's advice is the best marriage advice we've ever received. It's something that I will never forget. It applies to all of us, newlyweds or those who have been married for decades.

What was the best marriage advice you received?
